What it is

User testing, explained

Your team knows the product too well to see it like a new user. User testing shows you the moments of hesitation, the missed buttons and the wrong assumptions that analytics can only hint at. Participants who match your audience complete realistic tasks while recording their screen and thinking aloud, then answer a few follow-up questions.

Who it's for

User testing: frequently asked questions

How many participants do we need?

For finding usability problems, around 5 participants per user group usually reveals the main issues. For comparing designs or measuring success rates, more are needed. We'll recommend a number.

Can we test a prototype?

Yes. Figma and other clickable prototypes work well. See also prototype and concept testing in user research.

Are sessions moderated?

Most are unmoderated: participants complete tasks on their own time with recordings. Moderated interviews can be arranged as part of user research.

What do participants need?

A device matching your criteria and the ability to record their screen. We handle instructions and consent.
